This Privacy Policy describes the kind of information The Baseball Inc. (“The BASE”) collects from you, how that information is used, and when it is disclosed. This Privacy Policy applies to our website, www.thebase.org (our, “Site”) and also provides additional information about our privacy practices. Where we use the term “Personal Information,” we mean information that relates to you as an identifiable person.
Information That We Collect
Personal Information that You Provide: The BASE collects Personal Information about you when you choose to share information about yourself, for example, when you make a donation, request information, or sign up for a program. This information may include, but is not limited to, your postal, e-mail address, your telephone number, and your name.
Information We Collect Automatically When You Interact With Our Site: We automatically collect certain device information and online user activity when you interact with our Site, as described in the next section.
Some of this information may be collected by external parties on our behalf. For example, we use a payment processor when you engage in a transaction on our website; The BASE does not itself collect or store payment card information.
Online User Activity, Cookies and Information Collected by Other Automated Means
When you interact with our Site, certain information about your use is automatically collected. This includes:
- Usage Details about your interaction with our Site (such as the date, time, and length of visits, and specific pages or content accessed during the visits, search terms, frequency of the visits, referring website addresses);
- Device Information including the IP address and other details of a device that you use to connect with our Site (such as device type and unique device identifier, operating system, browser type, mobile network information, and the device’s telephone number);
Much of this information is collected through cookies, web beacons, and other tracking technologies, which may be operated by our partners who assist us in collecting information about usage of the Site or providing other services to you. How We Use Personal Information
Personal Information is used to provide you with information or to deliver the services that you have requested, and to provide you with additional services that we believe may be of interest to you. We use the Personal Information and other information we collect to improve marketing and promotional efforts, to improve content, and to customize the Site, content, and layout. The BASE also may use the information to inform you of new services, changes or promotions, and to respond to your inquiries, comments, feedback or questions.
Donor and program participant contact information is entered into our constituent database so that we can contact you in order to:
- Supply you with information;
- Request voluntary time or monetary contributions to The BASE;
- Seek completion of voluntary surveys seeking feedback for quality and service improvement purposes.
We may also use Personal Information and other information that we collect to prevent fraud, commercial activity, or misuses of our Site or other services, and to ensure the security of IT systems architecture, and networks. Further, we may use this information to comply with legal obligations and legal process, and to protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you, or other third parties.
If you provide your postal address, telephone number or e-mail address to us, then you may receive periodic contacts from us. If you decide at any time that you no longer wish to hear from us, each electronic communication will contain an “unsubscribe” link. You may unsubscribe from postal mailings at any time by emailing communications@thebase.org.
Sharing & Disclosure of Information
At times we may offer programs that are sponsored by or co-branded with identified third parties. By virtue of these relationships, the third parties may obtain Personal Information that you voluntarily submit to participate in that activity. The BASE has no control over the third-party’s use of this information in this context
We use outside companies to process our charitable donations made online and offline. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing us with these services. Prior to giving a donation online, you will have an opportunity to review that company’s privacy and security policy.
We may also hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf. We may share your Personal Information with these business partners and third parties, including database providers, marketing agencies, and e-commerce partners who provide us with this type of assistance. These may include, but are not limited to, credit card processing, fulfillment and shipping, database management, e-mail distribution, and website management. Such parties may use your Personal Information only for the specific purpose for which they are provided the information.
We do not identify individuals as donors without their prior permission and we do not send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.
We may also disclose your Personal Information in the following circumstances:
- Corporate Event. We reserve the right to transfer to another entity or its affiliates or service providers some or all information about you in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, acquisition, sale of assets or any line of business, change in ownership control, or financing transaction. We cannot promise that an acquiring party or the merged entity will have the same privacy practices or treat your information the same as described in this Privacy Policy.
- Legal. We share information where necessary to comply with applicable law, to respond to requests from law enforcement agencies or other government authorities or third-parties, as permitted by law when it is necessary to protect our customers, employees, or property; in emergency situations; or to enforce our rights, including under our terms of service and policies.
Marketing Communications
Email Marketing: We may request Personal Information in order to invite you to receive periodic e-mail updates about our work. We occasionally send out email newsletters and direct mail communications to The BASE constituents to highlight news, information, and opportunities available from The BASE. You can elect not to receive email communications from us by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email from us and following the procedures described or by emailing communications@thebase.org.
Text Messages: You may provide us with your mobile number to receive text messages about updates and notifications. Consent to receive automated marketing text messages is not a condition of any purchase. You can opt-out of receiving commercial text messages by responding to any of our text messages with any of the following replies: STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, or QUIT. If you opt-out, we may still send you service-related communications. The BASE does not share the SMS opt-in consent with any 3rd party organization.
Online Advertising: Online Activity Tracking and Interest-Based Advertising. You have several options to either prevent our collection of information regarding your online activity, or prevent third parties from using such information from being used for interest-based advertisements:
- You may modify your browser settings to disable or reject cookies across the internet; but if you do so, some features of our Site may not function properly or be available. If you are visiting the Site from a mobile device, the operating system of the device may offer you options regarding how the device collects and uses your information for interest-based advertising. - You may be able to prevent third parties from using your information for interest-based advertisements across the internet by visiting http://www.networkadvertising.org or http://www.aboutads.info. Please note this does not opt you out of being served ads, nor will it prevent the receipt of interest- based advertising from other companies that do not participate in these programs.
Security
You use the Site at your own risk. We implement technical, administrative, and organizational measures to protect Personal Information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. However, no Internet or e-mail transmission is ever fully secure or error free. In particular, e-mail sent to, or from, us may not be secure.
For areas of our website which require login, we ask that you help us protect against unauthorized access by keeping your password in a safe place and signing off when using a shared computer. You agree to notify us promptly in the event that you learn or suspect that your password may have been compromised. We ask that you do everything that is reasonable to ensure the security of your Personal Information as well.
Privacy Practices of Other Sites
For your convenience, our Site may contain links, or addresses, that you can click to open other useful sites where we do not control the content or privacy policies. We recommend that you carefully review the approach these sites take to your privacy before you use them or provide them with information.
We assume no liability for any unauthorized actions of third parties or accidental transmission errors that may disclose Personal Information about you, and The BASE is not responsible for these other sites’ privacy practices, which may be different from The BASE’s privacy practices.
Children’s Information
While we encourage children to visit our Site and learn more about our programs, we recommend that parents approve and closely supervise the activity of their children at this and all other online sites. We urge children to check with their parents before entering information on the Service and any web site, and we urge parents to discuss with their children restrictions regarding the online release of Personal Information to anyone that they do not know. If you have reason to believe that a child under the age of 13 has provided Personal Information to The BASE through the Service, and you would like to review or delete the child’s information, then please contact us and we will endeavor to delete that information from our databases. Please note that as a non-profit organization, we are not subject to certain laws like the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”).
Updating Your Information
Although we are not required to do so by law, upon request, we will provide you with the contact information that we maintain about you. Further, we will respond to requests for updates or changes to your Personal Information. We recognize that you may wish to limit the ways in which we contact you. If you wish to restrict the internal and external sharing of your contact information, for example by excluding certain contact by telephone, email or postal mail, please contact us. Please be aware that we take these steps as a courtesy to you and reserve the right to deny your request for any reason.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post a notice of those changes on the Privacy Policy section of our Site so that you will always have notice of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
